"Your account is currently unavailable due to a site issue. We expect this to be resolved shortly. Please try again in a few minutes."

Users began reporting the same kinds of issues with Instagram around the same time (a little after 9 a.m. ET) on Saturday morning.

UPDATE: 12:20 p.m. ET: A Facebook spokesperson in contact with Mashablehas confirmed the global outage suffered by Facebook and Instagram users on Saturday morning. "Earlier today, a technical issue caused some people to have trouble accessing Facebook services," Facebook's spokesperson told Mashable. "We quickly investigated and are currently restoring service for everyone. We’re sorry for any inconvenience."
As of this writing, many Facebook and Instagram users on Twitter are reporting the ability to access the site once again, however, DownDetector is still registering some issues for a small number of users attempting to access the sites.
