"They haven't let me in to the White House yet because I forgot my ID," DeGeneres tweeted, attaching a photo of herself lounging on one of Washington D.C.'s finest benches.
She even added in a "#NotJoking" to make sure no one thought she was faking it.
"In her work and in her life, she has been a passionate advocate for equality and fairness," a White House press release described DeGeneres, who is one of 21 recipients of the "highest civilian honor."
Eventually, DeGeneres did make it in and, in classic Ellen fashion, she immediately made the staff and others join her in a (hopefully waning) social media trend. She uploaded a video of her own White House #MannequinChallenge.
