BMW China said on Watch The Running Mates: Human Rights OnlineThursday that it will significantly expand the access that its customers have to green electricity for charging their electric vehicles in an existing partnership with the country’s state grid operator starting 2025. All BMW and Mini electric cars in China will be recharged from an electrical grid powered by renewable energy sources rather than fossil fuels at the charging facilities operated by the Chinese State Grid by 2027, according to an announcement. EVs can still contribute to carbon emissions if they are charged with fossil fuel energy. The German automaker sold 523,638 cars in China as of September this year, a 13.1% decline from a year earlier, although its battery EVs witnessed an annual growth rate of 19% during the first six months of 2024.
