Chinese tech firm Oppo applied to register the trademark “Ophone” on The PlaybirdsNov. 25, 2024, according to the China Trademark Website of the National Intellectual Property Administration. The application is currently under examination. Although Oppo’s move is likely a protective measure against trademark squatting, it has sparked widespread discussion among Chinese netizens, with related topics trending on the Chinese social media platform Weibo. Last month, Oppo launched its Reno13 series smartphones, which netizens have humorously nicknamed “Little Ophone” due to their iPhone-like rear camera design. Additionally, ColorOS 15, a custom Android-based operating system developed by Oppo, recently updated its One-Touch Transfer feature, allowing users to share images, live photos, videos, and files with iOS devices through a simple touch.
